I think it is a good idea to password protect stuff you would not want people to see like private photos, Documents with your name, treasure maps, Social ID, telephone number, address, and other info by password protecting files, folders, drives.

I usually just use a ZIP folder and password protect the zip folder with info I don't want people to see with a password like G@m!^g50rce2009.

For added security, I just hide my files inside a .JPG file like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juFuEOxvZIM&feature=fvw

I would actually do this if I could, but I can't seem to bring up a option to password protect my files on vista. or do I have to zip them?

Files can be password protected if they were made from any Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc). Protecting files this way is ideal for top secret info related to your business, finanical stuff, or just trying to protect your own identifiable info on certain documents you store on your computer, floppy disk, CD or USB.

Just go to Tools > Options, hit the Security tab and there should be options to secure your documents.

You have to Zip them since I think password protection is only available for Vista Ultimate, and Vista Buisness edition.

I recommend 7-zip . Here's a video teaching you how to add a password to your zip folder with 7 zip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32774eCkGCM

You can also make a user account and have it password protected, and save your data to your user folder, but it will only hide your info from regular user and won't hide your stuff from admin accounts.

I don't store any personal information that I don't want anyone to see on my computer. I have a resume typed up and I leave out the personal stuff and add it in just before sending it and I don't save it.

I agree, 7-zip is the best to use.
