Is paid forum software the only type of paid website software you pay for?

Yes, if I was looking at Invision or Vbulletin forum as my forum software of choice, I pay for it since it comes with technical support from Invision and the Vbulletin technical support team.

I also pay for mods, plug-ins, and add-ons for my blogs, cms, and forums if there are no free alternatives which are as good or better then paid.

But, for blogs, Wikis, and CMS software there are already a few very good free alternatives like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Wikimedia, Blogger to paid versions of blogs, Wikis, and CMS software.

Not really. I pay for vBulletin as well as sometimes pick up a custom theme or plugin for WordPress or the like. I don't like spending on a lot of custom mods and themes though...

yeah for the first 6 months, after that you have to continue to pay for their continued support and upgrades.

But yeah, I would only pay for IPB or VB.
