Do you feel Subscription MMO games are dying? Both The Secret World and the new Star wars the old republic MMOs had started out with subscriptions but quickly abandoned the subscription service.
World of Warcraft is still pretty popular. WoW still have 11 million players world wide in 2012 according to http://www.gamersbin.com/world-warcraft-f72/how-many-people-still-playing-world-warcraft-2011-a-28630/
I think people don't have time for playing more then one paid mmo, so most people just stick to one like WoW, or Final Fantasy MMO.
I'm also not sure if Star Wars make a good MMO for Star Wars fans since the storyline in movies are action packed, and MMO usually require a lot of levelling up, and joining a clan.
11 million players worldwide in 2012 for WoW is still a lot of players for an MMO paid or free. WoW is still the most popular MMO according to http://www.ibtimes.c...ld-warcraft.htm
1 million players stop playing WoW according to http://www.telegraph...ng-players.html which is about 8% of its user population out of their previous 12 million players.
WoW would have more players if WoW is also available on Linux, SmartPhones like iPhone and Google Android, Tablets, and Xbox 360, PS3, and future consoles, so people can pay for them with those console gift cards.
I think once WoW launch its next major Expansion pack or update a lot of new and old players will give WoW new expansion pack a try again like how people rush out to buy their favourite game series once a new version is release.
Windows 8 might also make WoW have more players since Windows 8 would let you play PC games on your Tablet, PC, and Laptop since they all use Windows 8.
Final Fantasy XI and WoW are still doing well, especially with new expansions coming out. Others... Not so much. And Windows 8 is still in development, so it hasn't gone gold yet, so obviously it won't be playing anything superbly.
I think Windows 8 would be good for gaming since PcWizKid on YouTube tested both Windows 8, and 7 on the same computer, and most performance test he did showed that Windows 8 is faster, or about the fast as Windows 7 in games he tested for his video.

Windows 8 also starts up a few second faster, and use less RAM and CPU then Windows 7.
The Owner of Steam, and Blizzard don't like the Windows Marketplace App store which will come bundled with Windows 8, and might get released for Windows 7 with a Windows update. The Windows marketplace app would let people download free software, or pay to download digital versions of PC games from their desktop like Steam, or Blizzard, but they be paying MS instead of Steam.
Windows 8 will also have backward compatibility with most hardware and software which works with Windows 7. I think Windows 8 is not out yet, so it is too early to know if it would be a success with PC games or not.
Windows 8 joining with Xbox 360 could make gaming with Microsoft better like streaming Xbox 360 games to Windows 8, or playing Windows 8 games on the Xbox 360, so you don't need to buy two versions of the same game.
It's not just about the speed though. Windows 8 uses less requirements, and it has improved performance, which makes for a better OS. It will be significantly more convenient than 7.
The lower system hardware requirements will also let people who have older slower computer be able to play games like WoW, MineCraft, and other games which don't have high system requirements with less slow downs and faster load times compared to Windows 7 which can slow down a PC with less then 3GB of RAM, and a CPU slower then a 2GHz CPU when playing older games like WoW, or low sys. requirement games like Minecraft, or even the most basic games like flash games, and casual games where the video is not smooth, and like a slide show style video...
Windows 8 will also have keyboard, and mouse support, so once you launch the game, you can still play it like other PC games which uses Keyboard and Mouse, and the game makers and hardware makers who still want to support their games for Windows 8 will release updates for them for improve performance in Windows 8.
I also think Windows 8 would also support newer tech like 3D monitors/TV, Touch screen monitor, and newer video cards better then Windows 7 since 3D and Touch is not as popular in 2008 when 7 came out.
I think the subscription based service for MMOs is indeed dying out. I don't think people want to pay $15 or whatever every month for a single game and I think companies are realizing that and taking away their subscription mandatory feature and making it optional. I know BioWare is doing that with SWTOR and while granted I am still paying for my subscription for that, I am glad to see it having a free to pay option coming because I am quite sick of paying $15 a month for a single game.
