Is surround sound 5.1 sound important to you?

Surround sound is important to me when watching movies at a movie cinema since I expect great sound when I pay 10 dollars to pay to watch a movie.

I also like 5.1 surround sound for computers and TVs since it makes watching stuff more realistic.

I don't get the whole 5.1 thin but surround sound is nice and I would like to get a system for my PS3.
