Our long national nightmare may soon be over. As part of their bankruptcy filing yesterday, MGM has established its plans for the future of its crown gem, the James Bond franchise.

Bloomberg reports that new Bond films "may be released every second year starting in November 2012, MGM said. It aims to own 50 percent of Bond 23, due out that year, with an equal partner paying all of the production costs, it said. Later Bond movies would be wholly owned and funded by MGM, the company said."

No word yet on who that "equal partner" on Bond 23 will be.

One of the issues facing the delayed Bond 23 was the increasingly crowded schedule of star Daniel Craig. He's currently filming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and must then segue to do reshoots on the now delayed Dream House.

Craig will then be promoting Cowboys & Aliens throughout next summer, so it would appear that fall 2011 would be the earliest he could slip back into 007's tuxedo to start filming Bond 23.

cowboys and aliens?

I'm in no rush for Bond 23... (I don't think I ever actually watched Quantum of Solace.) I don't really like Daniel Craig as Bond. For some reason he doesn't really make me think of Bond, he reminds me more of a villain than Bond.

Besides, Daniel Craig is supposed to have played Bond when Bond was just getting started as an agent... but Daniel Craig looks older than Pierce Brosnan did in most of his Bond movies. (Which kind of ruins it for me.)
