What is a very strange move, Japan has finally gotten the PS4 after most of the world already has which will no doubt add another 2 million to the PS4 sales.

Anyone here importing it to play region locked games?

That is....weird.

Wasn't the PS4 made in Japan?

So why did they delay the launch there?

That would be like the US delaying the release of the Xbox One in in America for 4 months.

yep, the country that usually gets things first was given the finger for once.

It was delayed because they needed extra time to ready the PS4 for Japanese market. So they either lacked the games or they wanted to run a beta on outside countries first and given the issues was most likely a smart move.

Yeah, normally Japan gets most of this stuff before us. I guess for once we finally got out ahead, although their release might be better for the wait.

Maybe the demand for the PS4 in Japan is not as high as in North America, and Europe where the PS4 is still sold out, or becomes sold out in a day or less.

I read on Gaming blogs like Kotaku that handheld and mobile gaming on Smartphones and tablets is very popular in Japan. Some of the reasons for hand held consoles being popular in Japan maybe because many average people live in the same home to save money, and their homes are not as big as homes in North America, and Europe because there is less land in Japan. The Japanese also travel a lot by train to go to work, school, and travel, so a handheld gaming console is better choice for their traveling lifestyle.

No surprise there then! lucky people! Although they got it later than expected...xD

I'll be waiting for the official release in Europe.

Well, from what I've read, it was mostly so they could compete better against the Xbox One on the NA and European markets, which makes sense since they already own the Japanese console market. This probably helped greatly in the console war, but was still a bitch move towards their home country. I remember seeing pics of large numbers of PS4s stocked in Japan, and about to be shipped to Europe.

A funny info is that the 3DS is still competing rather well in terms of weekly sales against the PS4 (not including the weeks when it was released).
