Former Japanese Defense Ministry Yuriko Koike is currently running for Tokyo governor. Among her ideas to is to leverage anime. Because anime is real.

While in Tokyo’s geek district Akihabara, Koike talked about how last Halloween she dressed as Sally from Sally the Witch, an early magical girl anime. Kioke added that she wants the anime industry to grow and talked about supporting Comic Market, a twice-a-year event in Tokyo.

Anime is big business in Japan, so this isn’t an unusual thing for a politician to say. It’s an industry which might need more political support. If Koike is serious about this (and online in Japan, people seem skeptical), hopefully she’ll have a plan to address the anime industry’s working conditions.

Would this make tourism blossom in Japan?

If this happens I will go to Japan, even if it means coming back as a ghost to do so :p

I would have a normal Japanese life and camp in a Pokemon Gym all the night. Awesome!

The first paragraph: Former Japanese Defense Ministry Yuriko Koike is currently running for Tokyo governor. Among her ideas to is to leverage anime. Because anime is real.

"because anime is real" this is the best part :p

Well, see you all in Tokyo!

Far as I know, Japan does have like a super nerd area which anime is practically on par with real life.

Yep, that is true. There are even young cat maids serving you food. In our countries, the young girls would be to shy to do that or to lazy to work. We have McDonalds with a clown, they have a red haired girl., even a McDonalds anime... cri

I'll be the cynical killjoy and say I don't like this idea. I loved visiting Japan, partly because of all the anime goodness, but I thought it was on a decent level. Fiction and real life are completely different things, and I don't support the idea of making a fiction medium central to a capital city. Maybe it's a nice idea for anime fans in theory, but I very much doubt it would nearly as well in real life.

I doubt the whole city would be reformed, just certain areas or sections.
