Places to advertise huh...
Make something like this to use to copy and paste in forums(hold it in your staff forum). This brings HYPE!!!!. Also I wrote this description in a second here so maybe it could be better:
[img=http://forum.gamingforce.us/public/style_images/36_logo.png]
Forum Name: Gaming Force
Link: Gamingforce.us
Description: GamingForce is hosting a contest.
$60 to the winner! WoW. Visit ....here....(add url to contest post) for DETAILS. Please note that our contest is WELCOME to all. You don't have to be a rocket scientist and anyone can win!
or don't hesitate and register by

Now you find a list of forums that offer free advertising:
http://www.businessadviceforum.com digitalpoint.com, theproductforum.com, http://weadvertise.createforum.eu,
http://forums.icyboards.net/, http://extremeads.forumotion.net/forum, webmasterbb.net, V7n.com, etc, etc.....
So you go to your moderation forum and create a pinned topic and create a list of ALL of the forums that allow advertising. Take not of their, total post rules before advertising. What I did was google search my nickname because it brought up all of the forums I've been to. I took all of the ones that allow advertising and added them to the list. Even the dead ones. Older sites get a lot of random visitors and if there are no posts in a month or so when you post visitors enter directly to your post often.
Example of a good list:
Digitalpoint(requires 50 posts) -
Contest forum
FP(requires 30 posts?) -
millestone board
you get the point. Notice how my links say the requirements and the link goes directly to the board. See, once you have the required posts for a wack load of forums you can just click, create topic, paste, done, and continue to the next forum.
Now you can do that for every contest!
I used a list that was over 200 forums, large forums, small forums, whatever. Then If I had a contest that had a good prize I would hit ALL of them and punch in 40 contestants.
Mass pm/email
-You didn't send a mass pm or email. A lot of people just forget about this place and need a nudge with a new contest.
Don't pm/email on second thought!!!
-In the CONTEST post all their is was complaining by senior members. This is a problem. If newer people saw that they would not enter. I think for the most part your senior members were being rude. Yeah, you heard me! RUDE guys. What's happening is they know they are the main people involved in contests so they have taken authority. 500/words is too much.......oh brother......... or I don't want to do that.......WHATEVER DUDE don't then. For senior members a contest is not for winning and earning. It's for competing with your bro's and being part of the community.
There's no way that others would've entered with that junk going through the post.
How to solve it
If you think there is going to be discussions related to the contest that you cannot control it then create a topic in the general discussion or someplace else for stuff related to talking about the contest. Say "go here to discuss the contest"(with a link) in the main contest topic. Lock that topic unless you need people to actually enter into it. If you need people to reply and enter in it then in small words(italic) say at the end
Note: for discussions please visit THIS topic. This topic is only for entering the contest. Thank you.
Lastly, if you know that activity into a contest is going to be tougher then you have to create a contest that will use the contestants to promote the contest in some way.
DAWG.......you gotta put some effort into these types of things! Hire a dedicated staff to help you man!!!
The next time you do a contest with something of good value don't put a timer on it. Say the registrations will CLOSE when 20 people have entered, then ask the current entry people to add a signature link to the contest in other forums they go to(or something like that).
