KH 3 Not the End

Kingdom Hearts III won't be the last game in the series, according to the franchise's creator.
Speaking with the LA Times, Tetsuya Nomura rejected the description of Kingdom Hearts as a "trilogy", not just because of past spin-offs like Dream Drop Distance and 358/2 Days, but also because the series will continue on beyond the release of Kingdom Hearts III.

"There was never a plan," he said. "As a core game, this is finally the third, and 10 years have passed. I couldn’t call this a trilogy. There have been so many spinoffs. In ‘Kingdom Hearts 3,’ the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past 10 years will come to a conclusion. That is the plan. But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past 10 years will come to an end."

Its obvious that they'd want to milk the series the way they did with Final Fantasy.

I do believe it's popular because of the battle system it's self.

I think its more about the plot. For the battle system, I think the one in Rogue Galaxy was better than the one in the first Kingdom Hearts.

Sora and Kairi get married at the end of KH3.

KH4 reveals that Sora lives as a single dad while Kairi saves the universe on a regular basis.

In a less humiliating story for Sora, their kids are heroes.
