Killzone will always be in the shadow of Halo?

When Killzone was first released, it was dubbed by Sony to be a Halo killer. A lot of fanboys (myself included) went with the hype and got the game. Well, it was okay, but it definitely was no halo killer. 2 generations of consoles later, we still see Killzone in the shadow of Halo. Is there a chance for this FPS series to come out of the shadows and possibly outshine the mighty Halo? Or will it forever be in the darkness?

I absolutely love the Halo series. I did buy Shadow Fall for the PS4 but I haven't touched it in a month. Honestly the difference for me is the quality of the story. Halo immerses me, it's a game I can always get into, mostly because of the interesting characters. Killzone just didn't have this effect on me. Second reason is the multiplayer in Halo... Honestly one of the best multiplayers in FPS's. I could go on and on about vehicles, co-op, soundtrack and better battle mechanics but I think you get the point. Halo is just on a higher level as a franchise.

It seems like Sony has a lot of work to do then. I also love Halo. It's one of the few FPS game series that I love to play. The Halo games just feel so... how do you put this... epic. It gives a sense of something big, that something huge is going on around you. I also loved the graphics in each of the Halo games. Killzone's graphics are pretty good too but they seem to pale in comparison to Halo every time.

Well, I was pretty impressed by the graphics of Killzone on the PS4, but I agree with the designs of the maps in Halo, they're always extremely impressive. I'll have to admit that it's also a bit about nostalgia, though. The Killzone franchise just doesn't have as many fans as Halo does, mostly because they haven't been consistent with the quality of their games KZ2 was ok, KZ3 sucked, etc.

Thanks to you I'm continuing Shadow Fall though, thanks for the reminder   (It's by no means a bad game)

Well,  from the very beginning, the Halo series has always had huge marketing budgets, game that's are universally praised etc. Compare that to the Killzone franchise, where the very first game was hyped to be a Halo killer and ended up being average (at least, IMO). To be fair, as a series, Killzone has been constantly improving, and I think the newer games are quite good (Shadowfall in particular is underrated), but Halo has a large history of being very high quality, so it'd be very hard for something like Killzone to catch up.

I'm not sure why there has to be a Sony Halo - I mean it isn't like Halo is the be all and end all of FPS or whatever. In fact I've never actually gotten why people fall all over themselves over it in the first place. That said I suppose it's a first come, best remembered sort of thing. That shouldn't stop your enjoyment however.

I have played all of the Killzone games and I've played all the Halo games.. to me, Killzone is eye-candy. I hate the controls, I hate the gameplay, I just hate it all. I barely was able to enjoy the first one, even though I tried really hard. I feel like if the game mechanics and such were better, the game would be more enjoyable for me. And this is coming from someone who isn't a halo fanboy.

I honestly don't see Killzone over taking Halo. Halo is part of pop culture I think every gamer on the planet has played it at least once.  The same can not be said for Killzone, I don't know many gamer's who has played it. But every gamer I know has played Halo.

Will it always stay in the shadow of Halo?

I can't answer for certainty. I mean things can change.

But at least for right now and the next few years (based on the fact Halo anniversary is coming this year and Halo 5 not too far off)... I don't think Killzone will overthrow Halo.
