Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's PlayStation Move controller are expected to be hot sellers at retail this holiday.
Speaking during GameStop's fiscal 2010 third-quarter earnings call this morning, company president Tony Bartel said that both devices will see supply issues over the coming months.
"We are not only excited for both the sales of Kinect and Move, both of which are going to be in short supply this holiday season, but we also like the fact they are bringing the expanded audience and the games that are going out with both of those are attaching well," Bartel said on the call.
"We definitely do see a new customer coming into our stores and it is selling hardware as well," he added.
Bartel said with Kinect that both Kinect Sports and Dance Central are the two top titles seeing the best software attach rate. "This will be a hot item throughout the holiday season and the key opportunity will be just to continue to keep them in stock," he said.
"Whenever consumers do see Kinect and they want it for the holiday season they should pick it up because it will be in short supply during the holiday."
Bartel also believes both devices will see a buzz this holiday similar to the Wii launch back in 2006.
"As we had with the Wii phenomenon where you had customers following UPS trucks to our stores, I think you're going to have the same exact thing with the Move controllers and with the Kinect bundle the goes out," Bartel explained.
"I think you're going have consumers following UPS trucks to our stores to pick up the products as soon as they can find them."
GameStop told us last week Microsoft has been quick to ship more supply of Kinect as demand increases.
