Kingdom Hearts Question

That One Random Girl...

So I recently acquired KH DDD and KH 358/2 Days. I started playing 358/2 and realized I am COMPLETELY lost in the storyline.

Some background:

I never played KH I

I played and beat KH II but didn't really focus on the storyline.

I played KH Chain of Memories on the GBA and somewhat paid attention to the storyline but never beat the game.

Have never played Recoded.

So my question...

I know in order to get the storyline straight I need to revist KH I and II.

Is CoM detrimental to the storyline? And if so, was CoM on the PS2 the same game as CoM on the GBA?

And is Recoded detrimental to the storyline?

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

By "detrimental", did you mean "essential"?

Personally, I have skipped those games after hearing reviews by people I know. I was able to follow the plot from KH1 to KH2 without it. You should definitely play some version of the original game though, mostly because it was such a good game regardless of how much of the plot you need. Heck, the original KH was listed as one of the top 50 games of all time (none of the other KH games were included in that number, either).

Oh thank God! I thought I was the only one who was lost while playing DDD! I've never play KH 1, 2, or CoM. My first KH game was actually 358/2 days, and ever since then I was hooked :P I don't really think recoded is detrimental though, it kinda just backtracks KH1 and CoM I think. Plus it's not really the best KH game they've made... Might be the worst in my opinion.

I played KH II so Im definitely going to play KH I and revisit KH II. I didnt know basically if CoM was really that important to the plot. I love KH II. Thats where I got hooked. LOL Thanks yall.

Their releasing an HD remake for PS3 for KH1 final mix, CoM, and HD cutscenes from 358/2 days, not the actual game just the cutscenes remade. Their callin it KH 1.5 collection and it should be out later this year, I'm not too sure, but I think I'll get that when it comes out and play KH1. Maybe I'll understand the story better if I do.

I didn't know that. I might have to snatch that up too.

lets get the storyline straight BBS happens first, 10 years before anything happened. then KH. then chain of memories, then KH 358/2 days then KH2, then DDD. KH3 is about saving terra, aqua, and ventus, then saving the worlds that were swallowed by the darkness

AH! Thank you ShyGuy! Ive been trying to google the order that it was supposed to happen in, but there are so many different opinions. I have BBS and I havent finished it yet so I think I shall start there. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Am I right in saying that there are some PS3s that will support PS2 games? I don't want to have to buy a PS2 to replay the originals, then a PS3 to play KH III.... (assuming it will be a PS3 game...)

Would it matter which character you choose in BBS in reference to get the entire storyline? Or is it just a shift in perception?

Some of the earlier models did. You would be hard pressed to find one for a decent price though. It is much cheaper to buy a PS2; I myself own 2, which were practically given away.

Once you finish BBS there is a Character Timeline that lets you see which events happened first in each of the characters stories, so I don't think it really matters who you play as first, and basically, all of the characters stories join so it doesn't matter. I picked Ventus because I thought the way he held the key blade looked cool :) Also KH3 may definitely be on PS3, but if not then PS4
