Angst has been building up recently over a highly anticipated announcement from Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear series, Zone of Enders series, etc.). About two weeks ago, Konami launched a teaser site for an upcoming Kojima Production game. The site displayed a field with overcast skies above. What could this mean? When would we hear and/or see something new about this unknown game?
On May 18, 2009, Kojima answered in true Hideo Kojima fashion. Accompanying a countdown clock to end 9:00 EST on May 22, the skies began to lproduce every now causing either a "5" or "S" to appear. This of course caused many theories about the announcement to come to light with the most prominent being the rumored Metal Gear Solid 5. The gaming community and fanboys alike watched and waited for the slightest sign of new information.
What do you know? When the previous countdown clock ended a new one appeared in its place. This time accompanying the previous "5" would be "3", "E" and "e" with pouring rain coming down. As with the previous update, the floodgates opened unleashing a plethora of rumors. Again, the most prominent ones were about Metal Gear Solid 5, it just fit. At this point, I was tired of all of the rumors; however, when it came within three hours of the clocks end time on May 28, I too started to become anxious. Hopefully, Kojima and his team would not disappoint us.
Thankfully at 9:00 EST on May 28, 2009, Kojima did not disappoint. A new countdown clock set witha timer of 117 hours was launched with violent weather as its theme. The sky was pitched black, the thunder rumbling, torrential downpour, and frequent lightning filled the scene over the field. At first glance, this might not seem that helpful of an update until you see the hints that accompany this scene. The preceeding hints remained while three new ones appeared. A "P", an "R", and a picture joined the previous four. You may ask. 'What is so special about these three hints that you are thankful for?'
The answer to this is simple, look at the picture. If you look closely, the man in the picture should be familiar with the fans of the Metal Gear series. This man is known as "Big Boss", the "father" of Solid Snake. With the rumors about Metal Gear Solid 5 seem to be coming true, one is to wonder what is next for the upcoming update from Kojima after he has revealed so much.
