A Grand Theft Auto-like open-world game called LEGO City Undercover has been detailed for Wii U. You'll use the Wii U GamePad to scan areas for clues and solve crimes, and then roam the game world at will.

Visuals are decidedly LEGO, but the gameplay is straight-up GTA/Saints Row.

A component game will also be released for the Nintendo 3DS platform, and will contain unique content and its own storyline in the same game world for portable gamers.

As weird as it is to say, I think this was the highlight of the press conference lol, definitely looks to have some depth too it. I've never even played a lego game but the story caught my attention quickly, I was surprised.

When I was watching the E3 coverage, and when I got to this I just keep thinking of other games at some parts, like blatant murder GTA, Jumping up walls and climbing in general, Infamous/Prince Of Persia.
For some reason I think I would end up buying it after a week of it being released in store as it just looks like it will be a ton of fun.

I thought it was interesting that the Wii U got a LEGO game that no other console has. I'm not sure, so I'm asking: does the Wii have the other LEGO games on their platform? I'm wondering if this was something that they felt they needed as an exclusive and whether it will come to the other consoles at a later date? I would love to play it, but I'm not buying a Wii U for just one game.

I've never been too into the LEGO games out so far, but this one sounds kinda cool though :) I'm with Sugarhill on this one though, since I highly doubt I'll get the WiiU.

And that is two games pushing me toward the Wii U... Seriously though I think this is truly a step in the right direction for Nintendo. Now all they need to do is keep going that a way.

I think I can wait long enough on LEGO Undercover to see if it's a timed exclusive or let the Wii U come down in price. Maybe, just maybe if the Wii U is compatitble with the Wii games, I'll see enough games that could justify the cost, but right now, I only know of two games, so I can't find the room in my home or pocket to commit to a purchase. But, I will keep an eye on it.

It was weird to see them get a Lego game of all things that the PS3 or 360 isn't getting. But the only reasoning behind that more than likely falls into the lap of that tablet controller of theirs.

I was thinking it was because they didn't want to have any characters that weren't Nintendo branded. I'd have to look through the Nintendo catalog, but other than the soon to be Batman, are there other company character games, like Warner Bros., Marvel or DC? Batman in Arkham City is the man, not the comic image.

This type of game sounds utterly awesome. I hope the reviews are as good as it sounds like this game will be. I have been waiting for this type of game - open world but family friendly type problem solving game. I think I will find 100's of hours of good game playing time in a title like this. Can't wait to see what it looks like!

To be honest, it didn't look overly different from any other LEGO game. They may be able to do more in this one since they aren't beholden to any famous character's canon, but it looked really familiar in the clips that I saw.

I was a fan of the original LEGO Star Wars, as I found the idea and gameplay elements rather unique. Sadly, the games started to feel old and repetitive over time, as i realized the developers used the same game mechanics across all other games (LEGO Batman, LEGO Pirates, etc). So i'm hoping this one brings something new to the table.

The games have gotten better as they have gone along. They've improved the camera angles and problems that they have put into the newer games. I have no interest in Harry Potter outside of the innovations that they've added to LEGO Harry Potter. It's been said that LEGO Batman 2 will be even more improved.

They also happen to be hilarious, I beat one of the older Star Wars ones on the Wii but haven't gone back to the franchise since. Now i'm planning to resume them, either on Wii or on PC, whichever feels easier, haha.
