Just slightly over a year since it first launched, the LEGO Group has today announced plans to shut down LEGO Universe, the LEGO MMO. According to the LEGO Group:
"In spite of very positive player feedback and a large number of players in the free play zone, it has not been possible to convert a satisfactory number of players to paying subscribers. It has therefore been decided to close the game as of January 31, 2012."
The MMO currently has just under two million players, but only a tiny fraction of those players are paying subscribers. LEGO Universe originally launched as a subscription-based title and took on the free-to-play model in an attempt to increase revenue.
