Less XBox exclusives this generation?

Is it just me or each console will get less exclusives this generation?

While we're too early in the life cycle of the XBox One to reach this conclusion, I notice a trend where developers release their games on all three major platforms: XBox, Ps4 and PC - much more often than they did last generation. Why? Well, development and advertising costs rose very much, at least for triple A titles. So it's not worth it anymore to develop a full exclusive game and miss out the sales you'll get on a different platform.

Console exclusive games are never good in my book. No matter how good the game is, or how much "better it is" on one console instead of another, I think it's not a very good style to release Xbox-exclusive games, or PS-exlcusive, and so on. Why? Well, because we can never really anticipate that the games we will like will be on a certain console.

What if a game is announced that sounds like the best game ever, but it's only on Playstation while you have an Xbox? I highly doubt you'd sell your PS and buy an Xbox just for that ONE game. It would simply not be worth it, and most likely... you would never play that game at all, unless it was ported, or you got another console because the amount of exclusives for that console got so high that it would be worth it.

It's a bad idea to make console exclusive games, both for the developers and the consumers... It's bad for everyone, except for the people who want to be special, and feel like their fellow friends with a different console cannot play the "best game ever".

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw way less console exclusives this generation, and I really hope that is the case. It's too early to say right now, but I hope there won't be any more.

I gotta say that I agree, and disagree with you. I do agree that it wouldn't surprise me either if we didn't see as many exclusives this generation. However, I disagree with you saying it's a bad idea to make exclusives. Exclusives set apart one console from another. If there weren't any exclusives then there really wouldnt be a point in having competing consoles and companies. The only difference would be the console itself, but what's the fun in that? Competitors need to compete with each other in this market, and exclusives are one of the best ways for them to do it. We, as consumers, use video games as entertainment. Developers and companies use it as a business, and the number one rule in business is to have the most consumers. Hence why exclusives are, and should, be a thing.

It is way too early to talk exclusives because exclusive deals also have the idea that a company or developer knows their target market is segregated to a specific console. The 360 claimed exclusive content because the developer had the most to make off that console's players and what they lose by avoiding the other consoles was so minimal that it made sense to aggressively push for one console.

There are other considerations, such as the fact that developing on the new platforms is an art and it takes time to perfect. As time goes on exclusives will increase and then we'll get to talk about which system's is good and which one sucks.

I do feel like there has been less exclusives.
However, if you look at the numbers, i think it would be quite close for a launch of a console.
I do feel the quality of exclusives hasnt improved though. Only graphics have advanced for me.

There's less third party exclusives, I think, because it makes less and less finanical sense to make them exclusive as the costs of game development rises. On the first party front however, Microsoft has a fair amount of exlusives for the XBox One. We have the new Forza game, Halo 5, Scalebound, Quantum Break, Phantom Dust and there's probably more that I am forgetting.

There are fewer PS4, Xbox Ones, and Wii U consoles where the Xbox 360 82 million consoles has more gamers than the Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One combined, so selling to a smaller amount of console owners by making a game console exclusive mean there would be fewer fans which can play a game if games are exclusive to only one console.

Its not you, both the PS4 and Xbone are going to have less exclusives this generation. It costs about 20 million to make a block buster AAA title and developers need to recoup the costs.

P.S. Microsoft had to pay EA what they thought they would get for PS4 and PS3 sales to make Titan Fall a Xbone and 360 exclusive. Don't expect that to happen too often.

I think there will be less exclusives, which is great since games should be for every console. I have an Xbox 360 so most of the exclusives were for my console anyways, but I still think that the "console exclusive" thing is really stupid.
