Level-5 became a primary backer of the 3DS at the October Level-5 Vision press conference as the studio announced five titles for the system. The weekend's Nintendo World event saw that total increase by one, and it's a major one!
Previously, Level-5 had Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Fantasy Life, Kyaba jo Pi, Time Travelers and Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney on the way. During a Nintendo World stage, CEO Akihiro Hino announced that the fourth game in the Inazuma Eleven series is in development for the 3DS.
This is big news in Japan, where the Inazuma Eleven series has proven to be a major success for Level-5, spawning successful non-game offshoots. Although the audiences are different, the franchise can be considered a Layton-like hit.
The fourth game, which does not yet have a title (although if they go by past naming conventions, it will be just "Inazuma Eleven 4"), was announced a few weeks back, but without a platform. All that's currently known is that the game will take place 10 years in the future from the past titles, and will focus on a new main character, Tenma Matsukaze. The plot involves Matsukaze's attempt to revive the soccer world, which is in a bad state at the time.
Hino also used the stage event to provide updates about Level-5's other games.
Miracle Mask, which launches with the system next month, is currently in the final stages of development. The development staff is triple the size of past titles.
Fantasy Life makes use of ad-hoc and Street Pass to give you the feeling of playing in the same world as multiple other players. Hino described it as a game that you play as you communicate with others. Everyone takes part in the game as a personal avatar character.
Kyaba Jo Pi is a 3DS version of a comical hostess simulator that Level-5 released for cell phones last year. Hino describes it as "The Super Robot Wars of the hostess world," in reference to the Namco Bandai game series that combines robot and character elements from multiple animes. Kyaba Jo Pi features cameo appearances from various anime and manga, whose characters appear as guests at the hostess club. At Nintendo World, Hino revealed that characters from Gundam will appear in the game.
Time Travelers is an adventure game that's being designed by Jiro Ishii, a top creator of digital novels at Chun Soft (including 428, which received a perfect score in Famitsu). Although Hino didn't say much about this game, he would say that Level-5 is trying to see how realistic they can make a world when using 3D output.
Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney is probably the most anticipated of Level-5's 3DS titles. But it's also the most mysterious. Hino said at Nintendo World that we should think of it not as a side story but like two popular anime series having been combined in one movie. Shu Takumi, designer of the Ace Attorney series, is currently working on the plot. Hino said that he hopes to make the game into a banner title for the 3DS. Level-5 will be publishing the game, but it's working directly with Capcom on development (as indicated by Takumi's role).
