Late last year, TMZ reported that actress Lindsay Lohan was prepping a lawsuit against developer Rockstar over the use of her likeness in Rockstar's critical and commercial smash-hit game Grand Theft Auto V.

Today, that lawsuit has been confirmed.

The AP reports that Lohan is suing the developer because GTAV "used her image and created a character based on her without her permission." The suit was filed in New York City, the hometown of Rockstar.

Lohan's lawsuit cites fictional character Lacey Jonas as an "unequivocal" reference to the actress.
Lohan rose to prominence following her starring role in the 1998 remake of the classic film The Parent Trap, and created a slew of hit movies -- Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, and others -- before running into multiple legal issues over the past few years.

I thought this was swept under the rug with the other lawsuits.

Much as I adore Ellen Page, I didn't see the resemblance between her and the kid in The Last of Us that she was so upset about, except for the Juno-isms.

Lindsay Lohan...hum, I don't play that game so I don't know what the...

I mean, even if I did play or even watch the game... What's wrong? Did they actually do the modeling, and just weren't paid for it? Was it an obvious parody of their celebrity personas that could be libelous or slanderous? What?

Here we go again. From what I can see, she is suing Rockstar Games for the graphic of a lady in a bikini with a phone. I do not think they both look similar. They both look a lot different, actually. Maybe she just wants to try to get some money or attention.

I don't think the drawing looks like her at all, but if she wants to try then more power to her, I say. I am guessing she will lose anyway, and I'd be very surprised if she wins. Rockstar has always gotten inspiration from many sources and surely they know by now how much to change just to make them legal, so I doubt they would have let this detail slip.

I was confused when I first read about this, mostly because I see no similarities whatsoever between Lohan and the character. Is there something I am missing here?

I just dont understand why she needs more money.
When you are that rich, why would you sue just for a tiny bit more money.
Rockstar will just win so dont know why she is trying.

Li-Lo should just lay low.  This is absolutely ridiculous.  She doesn't even look like that character!  Like somebody else mentioned, she's suing over a lady in a bikini holding a phone.  What a waste of time, hopefully the judge realizes she's just not right in the head.

The funniest part of all of this is, that in addition to any superficial similarities, she is also upset that the character's behavior is close to her own. That means she has to prove in a court of law that she's done dumb stuff in the past. She tried going after E-Trade a few years ago for the same thing. Although they were protected by parody, E-Trade offered a rather flimsy public defense. I see this ending the same way.

They just want attention. Lindsay Lohan has been put in bad light for a long time now since her coke addiction etc. (which is righteous). But now she just want some normal attention so people still know she's alive. We can just ignore her. She won't win anyway since parodies are allowed.

Update:

Grand Theft Auto V developer Rockstar has hit back at actress Lindsay Lohan, claiming her lawsuit against the studio is simply for "publicity purposes".

According to AP, Rockstar believes the case to be frivolous and was solely "filed for publicity purposes." The studio wants it to be dismissed immediately, while Lohan picks up the check for the legal costs.

In case you missed it previously, Lohan believes the GTA V character of Lacey Jonas is an "unequivocal" reference to her, and wants the developer to pay damages for using her image without permission. Rockstar, for its part, maintains the similarities start and end at Jonas and Lohan both being young blonde women.

Lohan rose to prominence following her starring role in the 1998 remake of the classic film The Parent Trap, and created a slew of hit movies -- Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, and others -- before running into multiple legal issues over the past few years.

I agree with rockstar's views.
