On Friday, Mnuchin sat down with Axios’ Mike Allen to talk about a wide range of issues including the strength of the dollar, tax reform, and Donald Trump’s “perfect genes.” At one point, they got around to addressing the topic of American jobs being replaced by technology.

“We had an Axios event the other day with Mark Cuban who was very focused on artificial intelligence and how that was going to affect the workforce,” Allen said. “What’s your take on that?”

“I think that is so far in the future, in terms of artificial intelligence taking over American jobs, I think we’re, like, so far away from that, that’s, uh... not even on my radar screen.” Mnuchin nervously said with a tight smile.

“How far away,” Allen pressed.

“Far enough that it’s...(guffaws with laughter)” Mnuchin trailed off.

I wonder if his predictions are true that in 50 years automation will still not be good enough to do many tasks.

There would probably be more new and modern jobs which keep people employed like live video streamer, video blogger, ebook writer, online blogger, tech support, etc where it is possible to earn money from doing these tasks.

He clearly knows something or is too old to give a damn about it. Anyways, its already here and taking more jobs by the day.

He may know something. But, I felt he may not be very prepared, and just came out with an answer which won't cause a panic and protests from workers.

I think cheaper minimum wages countries like India, Mexico, and China is currently more responsible for taking away jobs like manufacturing jobs because people in other countries are willing to work for a few dollars a day.

Sounds like a man that doesn't want to scare the people even more after all these horror problems with Trump. Machinery has already taken a few jobs like manufacturing, it won't be too long before it takes more

Maybe Trump will come up with a plan to hire most of the unemployed workers for jobs in the army, navy, police force, and other government jobs which need a lot of people.
