With Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon already out in Japan and videos of the final mansion and boss soon to come, I thought it was best to count down the days until its Western release with every possible piece of information we currently have about the game. So here it is:
The Storyline
From the website:
The Dark Moon that hangs over Evershade Valley seems to have a calming effect on the ghosts that reside there.
For this reason, Professor E. Gadd has been studying the friendly ghosts that are unique to the area. But when the Dark Moon suddenly breaks apart and falls into the valley below, the once-friendly ghosts become hostile, trapping E. Gadd in his bunker!
Luigi, who is at home watching TV, gets a big surprise when E. Gadd suddenly shows up on his TV screen and drags Luigi kicking and screaming through the screen into the Evershade Valley! After a little persuasion, Luigi agrees to help E. Gadd on his quest to find the Dark Moon pieces and restore it to its rightful place in the sky.
As you may have guessed, King Boo is the one who breaks the Dark Moon into pieces and turns the ghosts 'evil'. Here's a video showing the intro/storyline:

Mansions
There will be five mansions, with these names and themes:
http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/03/luigi-mansion-dark-moon/3/
then finally you’ll end up in a haunted museum setting.
Bosses
Poltergeist
Three Sisters
Giant Spider
Haunted Staircase

King Boo
Enemies
In Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, here are most of the enemies in the game.
Greenie
Basic ghosts with 10HP. May use weapons and have different forms.
Slammer
A tough red ghost with 30 HP which uses its fists to fight Luigi.
Hider
A Blue poltergeist, will hide in objects and try and throw them at Luigi to attack. Has 15 HP.
Gobber
[attachment=1180:Gobber.jpg]
A giant yellow ghost with 100 HP that throws goo at Luigi by spitting.
Polterpup
Ghost dogs that sometimes guard keys. One will also revive Luigi when he dies by taking a gold bone from him.
Fake Doors
Fake doors also appear and act like in the first game, slamming you into walls when you try to open them.
Boos
Boos also appear in the game. They fly around much like in the first game, and there's one Boo hidden in each mission that you need to capture.
Mummies
Egyptian style mummies found in the basement of the Old Clockworks. Actually turn out to be disguised Greenies when you suck away the bandages.
Animated Armour
Suits of armour that strike at Luigi with their swords when he walks by. Featured in nearly every single trailer for the game.
Gold Ghost
A special ghost that drops more money than others, like the Speedy Spirits and Gold Mice of the first game.
Man Eating Plants
Venus Fly Trap monsters which attack Luigi when he approaches. Are killed by making them eat bombs. Found in Haunted Towers.
Robo Bombs activated by the strobe light.
Purple Trapper Ghosts
These trap Luigi inside when he goes near and you have to struggle and make him escape. Apparently they have infinite HP according to Mario Wiki.
There are also other monsters not listed, like invisible ghosts, bats and spiders.
The Death/Revival Mechanic
You collect 'gold dog bones' as extra lives, and then get revived by being licked by a Polterpup (ghost dog). Hence this screenshot:
[attachment=1178
olterpup_and_Luigi_2.jpg]
New Gameplay Mechanics
As far as new gameplay mechanics go, there are a few. For instance, Luigi now has a strobe light which can be flashed to interact with the environment. This will do things like activate light sensors that unlock doors, wake up/revive plants to get them to give you prizes and various other things.
He also has a 'Dark Light', which is used to make hidden things (like Polterpup paw prints and hidden doors) appear. For isntance, whenever you see a door outline, making it appear will generate enemies called 'Spirit Balls'. Suck them up and the door will reappear and now be usable. This can also be used to hide things like bridges, puzzles and other objects.

The ScareScraper and Multiplayer Mode
The ScareScraper is a randomly generated level with different floors that you can attempt either alone, with people in local multiplayer or online. It has various modes, namely:
Hunter Mode
Catch all the ghosts to reach the next floor.
Rush Mode
Reach the exit within the time limit.
Polterpup Mode
Hunt down and capture all the Polterpups.
Surprise Mode
A combo of the first and third modes.
The tower has every type of ghosts in the game, so you don't know who you're fighting. It can also either end after a certain number of floors or go on for infinity until everyone dies.
