Seems releasing a sports game isn't good enough anymore, now it comes with a story mode as well! The new Madden will have a scripted story mode which will most likely bring plenty of drama to the game.

I haven't played a Madden game since Madden 06 and that had a cool story mode... sort of. I mean you just made a character and played through season after season making decisions on what do in your career, but it was still pretty fun. For some reason this makes it feel like Pouring Rain for the PS3 or one of those other really deep movie like games.

Don't care. Wish they would stop wasting E3 time showing off the sports titles to be honest. I mean, without it the show would be 10 mins long :p but it doesn't seem the place to do it.

I saw on Twitter yesterday someone made a good point that there are people who are genuinely excited to see sports games at E3. We may not like them, but there's no reason to hate EA for it. Sports games are some of their biggest money makers.

got to go with DYL on this one, I don't like it, don't care for it but these series have been going on for over 10 years for a reason. They do have a place at E3.

Oh I love sports games, FIFA is probably one of my most played games on a yearly basis. My point is that people tend to like one sports game, so the other 3 they show is boring and then there are also people who don't like any sports game. By all means have them playable on the show floor, but I think there is a better more targeted way to show them off (such as specific livestream reveals for each title)

The only sports games that I play are FIFA and NBA so this doesn't particularly interest me. I think I've only played a Madden game years ago at a friends house.

However, I think that adding a story within the game is a good idea since NBA (2k) has been doing it for a couple of years now and has had a good response. I actually love playing MyCareer type of modes because I feel more connected to the player that I make then guide him through up and downs. So it is definitely a good move.

Wow! To be honest, I'm hyped. I never played a Madden game before, I only played NBA 2K10-2K17 and NBA Live 2000-2007. I'm a basketball fan and rarely watch football. But this trailer makes me want to buy the game. I'm a fan of games with story modes, I might check this out soon.

I don't know about this. NBA 2k17 had some cringeworthy scenes and moments that really did not add to the immersion. My brothers have played it and their "storyline" is basically 1 story for all players, meaning you can't take different routes. You're the High School basketball star off to 1 year of college, where you get cringeworthy dialogue with your roommate and your mom. It's terrible for me, since you can't SKIP the cutscenes, and they have to play out in order for you to play the game. I honestly don't like it, as it takes away the action of the moment when you have to watch cheesy dialogue for 2 minutes.

First, I personally don't mind when a sports gaming titles are released at E3 (even though it seems like it takes up the majority of the conference).

Second, I'm thoroughly appreciative of the fact that they're adding a story to Madden 18'. Personally, I think stories with sport gaming titles are overlooked and underrated. I feel EA gaming developers lack creative and innovative minds when it comes creating stories for the NBA 2k series or Madden. Because you have real stories of football and basketball players who struggled to actually make it in their profession. Implementing stories like these would have much more validity. Rather than the "high school star" making it to the NBA or "college football jock" getting drafted for the NFL.

I'm not much of a sports fan, but I do suppose in some way this does makes me ever so slightly more interested in playing a Madden game, if for no other reason besides it would be interesting to see how they'd write a story about an athlete's career. Although in some ways I feel like it's going to end up the same way as any serious attempt at a story like in the Need for Speed games. In my opinion, they ultimately just ended up being a cheesy, unnecessary waste of time and effort that could have been used in improving the game other ways.

Played a lot of Madden and did a bunch of franchise modes. If it has a story I think it goes down NBA2K's route. You create a player and live out their career. Not sure if I would like it though.
