Terrifying? Inevitable? Harbinger? In any case, it’s a first: Police in Long Island, New York, have arrested a man for not using Twitter.

Someone named Justin Bieber, who apparently is a teenage singer, was supposed to appear at the Roosevelt Field mall on Friday, but stayed away because the crowd had become too unruly. Police asked a record label executive to help disperse the horde using the messaging service, and claim he didn’t cooperate.

Police arrested a senior vice president from Bieber’s label, Island Def Jam Records, James A. Roppo, 44, of Hoboken, N.J., saying he hindered their crowd-control efforts by not cooperating.

He was in custody Friday night, pending charges that could include criminal nuisance, endangering the welfare of a minor and obstructing government administration, Smith said.

“We asked for his help in getting the crowd to go away by sending out a Twitter message,†Smith said. “By not cooperating with us we feel he put lives in danger and the public at risk.â€

Slightly confusing, because Bieber’s Twitter account–presumably the one the cops wanted Roppo to use–does indeed show that he asked his fans to leave at 4:30 pm Eastern.

if this s*** goes on, then twitter should be shut down.

Wouldn't a Maga phone or public radio be more effective? I'm not sure how many teens check Twitter on their cell phone.

Justin Bieber's music is terrible! Just needed to throw that in... This is stupid! You can't arrest someone for that... can you?

The guy should sue for wrongful imprisonment since you can't force someone to say/twett something they don't want to say.

I believe he was actually arrested for "interferring with the police" or something like that. I heard about it on the radio. They basically where blaming him for not helping get the crowds under control. I doubt it'll go far.

Probably the guy was arrested for not being cooporative with police. Some other form of communication such as a loudspeaker should have been the best choice for the man. But a guy getting caught for not using Twitter is unheard of.

If you watch the video, a guy uses a loud speaker to tell people to go home. But, the bunch of fans Booo at him, and demand for Justin.

The guy should not of been arrested since it is not the job of citizens to handle crowd control.

If he were an ordinary bystander, I'd agree 100%, but he was one of the event coordinators and once you take on that role, you take on additionaly responsibilities.

I agree event cordinators should be in control of communicating to the fans that Justin won't be coming.

It is kind of odd that the senior vice president from Bieber’s label is also in control of event cordination since I always expect Vice presidents to be more busy with other things like marketing, finance, and so on.
