Ever had one beer too many, stumbled over to your home theater system and caught your TV eyeballin' you? Time to put that egotistical idiot box in its place, am I right Cletus? Just such a situation happened in Missouri this week when a man, a drunk man, opened fire on his television set when he couldn't get his digital converter box to work. Apparently he thought that bullets could somehow switch over his analog cable signal. Hmm, worth a shot.
Police responded to a 70 year-old man's house after reports of gunfire were heard from within the home. After a brief standoff, police took Walter Hoover into custody. He was later charged with unlawful use of a firearm, to which he replied: "I am the LAW!" Hoover's wife later told the police that her husband had been drinking before the incident. Shocking.
And so continues the list of crazed analog TV users that have bowed out to the indomitable willpower of digital cable, the same kind of people whose VCRs and DVD players still flash 12:00. Hopefully these scenarios will start to die out over the coming months, but probably not before we get word of some guy holding his TV hostage, demanding to speak to the president of DirecTV.
