No, you can't cash in the money you collected in the games, it's only for fun. But apparently it converts the real world gold prices and stuff to how many Mario coins a dollar is worth. Answer: Not many.

They also tried to work out how much Bowser's Castle from SMB 3 would be worth, apparently about 500 000 dollars:

You know what? I want to know how much the Bowser's Inside Story one would be worth. Or the Superstar Saga one. The ability to get the building to take flight must cost a pretty penny...

If there's so many of these coins lying around the Mushroom Kingdom that are worth over half a million dollars, and they magically re-appear every time you revisit an area or die, how bad do you think inflation is? The Mushroom Kingdom must be in economical turmoil!

Yeah, the stuff in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is really expensive. Guess the inflation thing turned out to be accurate.

I always love when people do things like this. Game Informer did something like this a while back with Banana coins from DK and Rupees from Zelda.
