Yes, you have to have them at one time. It's not hard, it's only long and boring since the only way to earn coins is by playing mini-games... It would've been great if they put another way to earn coins!

I managed to do this in a matter of days. My only advice is to just get fairly decent at Galaxy Rally. That way you can get at least 2'000 coins per session. That's all I'm doing nowadays (along with Ring Shot challenge) to get money to buy all of the items (I only have all the kits to buy now!)
