Because hey, I still have at least a little bit of interest in the old Mario fan games and ROM hacks, so I thought I may as well post about my latest fan game project.

It's basically the first ever Mario fan game based on the more modern era of Mario titles. So while the story is still basically 'Mario tries to save the world from some evil force', the plot now involves references to such great games as Mario & Luigi Dream Team and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, with characters, enemies and bosses from said games playing a part in the story.

And here are some early graphics from other games I plan to use:

Yes, I managed to get graphics from WarioWare Touched working in a SNES title, which is probably impressive on a technical level.

As well as some tiles from the original Actraiser...

These are from Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I'm very surprised a Playstation games has graphics you can use in a SNES era one.

As for levels and ideas... I haven't been able to get to that part yet. Still finding a couple of decent graphics first, as well as working on Wario News and Super Smash Bros 4 News. But I'll hopefully have something decent soon. After all, I did manage to finish this fan project before:

And a certain old game is associated with Nintendo 3DS Community for a reason:

So yeah, thoughts on my next Mario fan work so far? It's obviously at a really early stage, but I do hope I can at least manage a short fan game/hack with technology at the same level as Super Mario Fusion Revival or such likes.

Thanks!

May as well post this too:

Zelda tilesets, from The Minish Cap and Four Swords Adventures. Perspective is odd, but hey, not much choice here. Zelda rarely does 2D side views, especially in the 16 bit era.

Do you plan on releasing this?

If things work out, yes. Unfortunately, things work out means 'in 2015 or 2016', since graphics take a very long time to rip and assemble.

It's looking pretty nice so far. The only thing is how strange it is to see a Zelda lever in a Mario game.

Thanks. And yeah, it is a bit strange. But strange can be good, right?

Strange can be incredible if implemented correctly.

Very cool. I can't even imagine how long this would take, it's not even something I'd consider doing. It'll be great to see it released one day!

Screens are kept to a minimum though, because progress is too slow otherwise (and the wrong type of attention might otherwise be drawn).

Very nice graphic choices. Almost makes me want to work on my hack again. :p

Something is funky with the midsection of the background, here.

It got messed up due to me not checking ExGFX files. It's fixed now,

Looks like a really cool mod (hack), visually appealing, any mario game mechanics are really good, 11/10 GOTY.
