Looks like Game is not selling well on steam, only 11,000 peak concurrent players on steam, Eidos' previous game Shadow Of Tomb Raider got 38,000 peak concurrent players on steam and read this from bloomberg:
Guardians of the Galaxy has been well-reviewed, but doesn’t appear to have caught on with players. Sales numbers aren’t available, but the number of concurrent players on the PC platform Steam can be a useful indicator. Guardians peaked at about 11,000 players, according to SteamDB.
There could be a few reasons for this apparent commercial failure, like the glut of fall game releases or a general sense of Marvel fatigue. But I suspect one big factor is that after Avengers, a lot of people simply felt burned.
Although the Avengers game was strong in some regards, it also suffered from repetition and grind — two qualities that are common in service games. People who hoped for a fun, satisfying story like they’ve seen at the movies were undoubtedly disappointed that Avengers wanted them to beat up endless waves of robots and buy new outfits for the Hulk. Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda described it as “a disappointing outcome” in a letter to investors this week.
Guardians of the Galaxy takes the exact opposite approach. There’s no filler. The story won’t take needless pauses for generic missions designed to keep you playing for months to come. You won’t have to spend hours churning up levels just to unlock all of your superheroes’ powers.
But it’s easy to imagine a lot of potential players looking at Guardians of the Galaxy and thinking it’s just like that Avengers game they bounced off last year. Which is a real shame. This one is a fall blockbuster that shouldn’t be missed.
Probably because you can only control StarLord too. Both this game and Tomb Raider got beaten by Tales Of Arise, TOA got 60,000 peak concurrent players on Steam.
