The issue causes an error message (code 160-0103) to appear on-screen that reads: “There is a problem with the system memory. For help, make a note of the error code and visit support.nintendo.com.”
While there are multiple reports of the issue, they vary slightly in specifics and severity. Some users say they're unable to play Super Smash Bros, but others have reported that their console simply stopped working after they attempted to reformat the device and had to ship it to Nintendo for repairs.
Searching for the error code on the Nintendo tech forums suggests that this issue may not relate exclusively to Super Smash Bros, though the majority of recent mentions are related to the game.
