Konami has revealed a few new choice details about Hideo Kojima’s much anticipated Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
for the PlayStation Portable. The game won’t be out until May, so expect plenty of more info to emerge over the coming weeks and months, but these latest details will have to do for now.
First off, players will have access to an offshore Mother Base, which will serve as your personal hub to store weapons, items and personnel gathered during the game. It will also house captured enemies that you can then recruit to help you expand your base and assist in other ways as well. How exactly they aid you isn’t exactly clear, but by using them, new functions will become available to you. The base will also give you a place to upgrade and build weapons.
The game will also feature a number of new AI weapons including "giant unmanned behemoths” and "hover, airborne, and tank-style vehicles.” I still don’t fully understand why, but apparently each of these AI weapons will be able to sing and talk thanks to a popular technology over in Japan called Vocaloid. Konami says the feature will be tied into the game’s plot, so that's good to hear. Not that I’d expect Kojima and company to through in a bunch of singing predator bots just for the hell of it, but still.
On the multiplayer side, there will be four-player co-op as well as competitive modes including a three-on-three mode, all of which will be playable over Ad-Hoc networking. It seems that folks looking for some intense Snake-on-Snake action will definitely have their hands full when Peace Walker ships in on May 25.
