For everyone watching the E3 Direct from Nintendo there was three things on everyone's minds, Smash bros, Fire Emblem and Metriod Prime 4, which MP4 was missing during the showcase which Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime does have an update on it.

"Metroid Prime 4 [is] in development, progressing well," Fils-Aime said when asked about the absence of Prime 4. He also confirmed what Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen told IGN earlier in E3 — that Yoshi for the Switch, despite also being a Direct no-show, is "still in development." And another major reveal from last year's Direct, a new core Pokemon game for Switch, is set to come next year, as we learned shortly ahead of E3.

Fils-Aime explained that last year's Metroid announcement was actually a bending of Nintendo's traditional intention for an E3 Direct, which is to focus on titles coming in the near future.

"There are times where we'll bend that strategy for unique situations, like Metroid Prime 4 last year, but mostly we want to focus on the here and now," Fils-Aime said. "We don't believe it's in the fans' best interests to tease them year after year after year about a piece of content. We want to say here it is, here's when it's coming, and get ready for it."
