Despite recent layoffs and studio closures, Microsoft has announced its intent to acquire BigPark, a Vancouver based gaming company founded in 2007 by Disney Software and Electronic Arts veterans. The studio, though not a household name by any means, is comprised of members who have worked on franchises such as Need for Speed, FIFA, NBA Street and SSX.
BigPark will join Microsoft Game Studios to continue work on an exclusive Xbox 360 game that has been in production over the past year. That title will be showcased at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) this June.
Phil Spencer, general manager of Microsoft Game Studios delivered this statement,"We are delighted by the opportunity to welcome the BigPark team into Microsoft Game Studios. The team is composed of some of the most experienced and creative minds working in the industry today. The combination of the BigPark and Microsoft Game Studios talent pools will be an accelerant for growth and innovation.
