Microsoft announced via a blog post today that they have acquired PlayFab in order to build on Azure, its current cloud service tool and will allow the extension into the larger gaming market across all platforms.
The service PlayFab, provides developers with already established backend services to power cloud-connected games. This allows developers to build and operate games without their own intelligent cloud infrastructure as well as provides tools for monetization and analyzing gaming data.
Over 1,200 game companies such as Bandai Namco, Capcom, Wizards of the Coast, and Disney are currently using PlayFab services to power their games currently.
