I wonder which OS did people installed from. I bet a lot of people took advantage of the 14.99 deal of Windows 8 Pro when they bought a new PC with Windows 7 in Summer 2012 to Fall 2012, and the 39.99 dollar deal when you go online to buy Windows 8 at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/buy via digital download, or 69.99 for the retail disc.

Is there a Windows 8 Ultimate? If someone has Windows 7 Ultimate would they have to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro? I couldn't see an Ultimate. Isn't Windows 7 Ultimate better than Windows 7 Pro?

Windows 8 Pro uses less RAM, and CPU then Windows 7 in my experience, and mouse scrolling on websites seems smoother in 8 then Windows 7 for me which used to feels slower in 7 when browsing very larger websites like http://www.huffingto...country=US and http://techcrunch.com/, but the Huffington Post and Tech Crunch is smoother in 8 Pro.

My guest is Windows 7 Ultimate would feel a lot slower on older computers since 7 Ultimate is just Windows 7 with more features, and add-ons which can also make Windows slower by adding more software to the Windows installation and not as smooth as Windows 8 Pro which has the same system requirements as 7, but uses less RAM: 1GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB free hard drive space, and a DirectX 9 video card according to http://windows.micro...em-requirements

MS decided to just make two versions of Windows 8 like Windows XP where there is just XP Home and XP Pro. There is only Windows 8, and Windows 8 Pro for desktop and laptops. Windows 8 Pro is compatible with Windows Media Center while Windows 8 needs to be upgraded to 8 Pro to use Media Center.

There is also Windows RT for only tablets, and mobiles.

I wonder how many sold were just from companies and such?

I wonder how many sold were just from companies and such?

I'm not sure, but I guest not a lot since most banks, libraries, schools, and other places still are using Windows XP and 2000 when I look at the desktop wallpaper and theme when I am in-line waiting in the bank, library, or using a public computer at a school, library, or Internet Cafe.

I bet EA, Steam, Adobe and other PC game and software makers ordered a lot of copies of Windows 8 to test their games and software to see if they run well on Windows 8 before they release Windows 8 games, and software. Plus, PC hardware makers like RAM, Videocard, sound card makers also need Windows 8 to see if their hardware work on 8.

I think Windows 8 upgrades are mostly from home buyers which want a new PC, but not a Windows 7 PC because they fear MS and other software and game companies would stop making and supporting software and games for 7, or releasing Windows updates like Windows XP which soon won't be supported by MS because MS now has to spend their time on promoting 8 by making software and games for 8, and 7 might be not as important to MS, so they might abandon it in the future to spend more time on 8.

Plus, a lot of people just want the newest operating system and computers because they feel newer stuff is better, and have more features which is true in most cases.

The upgrade price for 8 Pro is also 39.99 for XP, Vista, 7 users, and 14.99 for recent Windows 7 PC and laptop buyers, so 14.99-39.99 is affordable for a lot of people, so if they don't like 8, they only lose 14.99-39.99, and could erase their disk, and go back to 7, or install 7 on another hard drive, and use 8 when they have to, and use 7 as their daily OS.
