SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said on Monday sales of the company's new Windows 8 operating system, released to the public on Friday, were running at a higher rate than its last release, Windows 7.

"We're above where we were with Windows 7," Ballmer told the audience at an event launching new phones running Microsoft's phone software called Windows Phone 8.

I think most people with Vista, XP, and 7 who plan on installing Windows 8 is taking advantage of the 39.99 digital download or 69.99 retail box upgrade which they can use Paypal, or Credit card to pay for. Plus, people who bought a Windows 7 PC or laptop recently also got a 14.99 coupon code for Windows 8 upgrade.

Plus, Windows 8 is also now installed on Tablets, so Microsoft will include Windows 8 Tablet into the total number of Windows 8 PC in use which also includes Laptops, and Desktops.

I agree that the 40 dollar upgrade price is making people upgrade, and also letting Windows XP and Vista users upgrade to 8 instead of just 7 also increase the number of upgrades since a lot of people have old XP and Vista Netbooks, laptops and desktops which they want to upgrade to for 40 dollars.

8 can also be installed on most slower and older computers as well without any or much upgrading needed.
