Microsoft has officially stopped selling 12-Month Xbox Live Gold Plans, possibly hinting at a stronger focus on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or a new service that could be on the way in-time for the launch of Xbox Series X.Microsoft confirmed the change to TrueAchievements, stating that even though the 12-month plan is not being sold "at this time," the 3-month and 1-month plans are still available for purchase.
"At this time, Xbox has decided to remove the 12 months Xbox Live Gold SKU from the Microsoft online Store." A Microsoft representative said. "Customers can still sign up for a one month or three month Xbox Live Gold subscription online through the Microsoft Store."Microsoft gave no further reason as to why it made this change, but earlier this week, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will automatically be entitled to Project xCloud services in September 2020 at no extra cost.

It's definitely Gamerpass all the way, soon as you sign in there are deals all over the place!

I don't use the yearly option anyway. When I Was doing it I just paid monthly

I wonder what they plan on doing. Hopefully, it forces Sony to rethink their PS Plus system as well. Tired of paying so much just to play online on a system I already own.

I feel some people with less money rather pay monthly or every 3 months than yearly because they may not have enough money for a yearly plan, and there is always a chance they may sell their Xbox, their Xbox gets lost or stolen or their Xbox broke where they won't be able to use the remaining time on the subscription until they get another Xbox if they plan to get another one.

It is probably a inconvenience to get back the money for the rest of the year subscription from Microsoft.

Maybe but it's such a waste of money to be buying it monthly especially because the yearly subscriptions aren't that expensive, to be honest.

MAN, Why not still keep it but have an option where if you order or have more months get it cheaper then paying monthly

I agree paying monthly is a waste of money since a yearly subscription are not expensive, and you end up saving some money.

Maybe Microsoft no longer wants to give discounts for subscribing for 12 months because they have enough 1 and 3 month subscribers to make more money, and most 12 month subscribers will switch to the more expensive 1 and 3 month plan.

Xbox Live refund department may also get fewer user e-mails asking to refund money for the time remaining for Xbox Live because the owner of the Xbox can't use up the rest of the 11 months remaining months because their Xbox is broken, lost/stolen, or they sold it before being able to use up all their time.

Fewer people may e-mail for a refund of 1 months or a few days of remaining money on their Xbox Live subscription.

I doubt that it is a permanent change. It's most likely a temporary thing until they make an announcement about it being merged with something else
