Microsoft is cooking up extremely cheap Windows 10 laptops

According to Asian publication DigiTimes, Microsoft is gearing up to launch Windows 10-powered alternatives to counter Google’s Chromebooks priced at $150 / €138 and below.

The report claims Microsoft is looking to sell these upcoming laptops with price tags ranging from $149 / €138 to $179 / €165.

Microsoft’s new budget notebooks will be offered for the educational and consumer market alike and will be powered by the Intel Bay Trail-T platform.

The model aimed at the educational environment will be manufactured by Elitegroup Computer Systems and will sell for around $179 / €165. As for the consumer model, it will be developed by the China-based 3 Nod and be marketed for around $149 / €138.

While most Chromebooks on the market today are 11.6-inchers, the report goes on to mention that Google is planning to bring more 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch models into the sunlight.

$149 is a good price for a Windows 10 laptop. I think these laptops would be good for traveling, taking to the library, school, coffee shop, and restaurants where stuff like laptops get stolen, and badly damaged easily because of food and drink spills at coffee shops, and restaurants.

Same.

I'm glad to see that Microsoft finally decided to step up to Google and show the big G that they have serious competition coming up.
I bet most people who buy these cheap Windows 10 laptops will use them a lot to browse the web with Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer, and use Google Chrome to browse Google websites like YouTube, Blogspot, Google Plus, Gmail, and Google Play to buy Apps, music, ebooks, movies and games for their Android smartphone and tablet.

Google also will still find ways to earn money and market share from Windows users because Google has a lot of free ad-supported user generated content on YouTube, Google Search and Blogspot.

Microsoft needs to come up with better websites to keep users from going to Google websites.

I bet you a laptop just running linux would be $100 cheaper than that price.

Microsoft said that they will be replacing Internet Explorer on Windows 10 with another browser that should be as fast as Firefox and Chrome.

but will it be secure?
I bet, new versions of IE will still be the first modern browser to be hacked by skilled hackers at hacking conventions because it probably does not have as many web browser coders and security experts working on it compared to Firefox, and Chrome which is open source, so many skilled coder, and security expert can make suggestions on securing the web browser while with IE only web browser makers who work for MS can make suggestions on improving IE security.

Also, will IE crash and freeze a lot like previous versions of IE. IE used to crash, and freeze a lot when I use it on older versions of Windows like 98, XP, and Vista. I also don't really like using IE because its user interface is not very nice compared to Firefox, and Chrome.
