In a blog post announcing Wimboot, Microsoft claimed that it can reduce the size of the Windows operating system footprint from 7GB to 3GB, and on a machine with 16GB of internal storage, that's a big savings.

Wow, 3GB is a small install size for Windows which previously needed 20GB of hard drive space to install Windows.

I wonder if it would be possible to shrink Windows 8 install size to 2GB by uninstalling Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Wordpad, Notepad, MS Paint, and all the other un-needed tools which computer users never or rarely use because of better alternatives.

This small 3GB Windows install size would mean it is now possible to install Windows 8 on a cheap $5 4GB SD card , and still have 1GB left over for installing small apps/programs and storing personal files.

I bet there soon will be very cheap $60-99 Windows 8 Tablets with 4-8GB of storage space for people who just need to use Windows to do Office work, web browsing, Netflix, YouTube, and other basic tasks.

That's good to hear, it's about time they did this.
