A new update went live today for Minecraft, adding weather effects, statistics, and achievements. Beta patch 1.5 also adds detector rails, booster rails, and some performance improvements.
"More statistics and achievements will be added over time as we develop the game, said creator Markus "Notch" Persson. "They're only stored locally at the moment, but we'll slowly be rolling out online storing of achievements over time."
The full release of Minecraft is set for November 11, 2011.

It likes to crash atm, lost some nice resources and some mob drops on my achievement(No editing)world.
