Minecraft publisher Mojang says it is "bored" by clones of its hit game, adding that games like FortressCraft are "really sad".
Speaking to Eurogamer, Mojang's 'biz guy' Daniel Kaplan said, "I'm really bored by the clones. They don't bring anything new to the table which is really sad."
Although the games show significant similarities to Minecraft, created by Markus 'Notch' Persson, Kaplan said there will be no lawsuits. "As long as they don't use anything we made, we don't care. Like, would the Doom creators sue everybody who has done an FPS? Don't think so."
FortressCraft from Projector Games has been a major hit on Xbox Live Indie Games with sales estimated at over 600,000 on the back of a price of $2. It launched in April 2011. Mojang has plans to bring its game to XBLA later this year.
Notch has previously said, "FortressCraft is an obvious attempt to just take something popular and clone it as closely as possible. I still think it's important that people are allowed and able to do things like that, but it's hardly graceful."
He added, ""Both FortressCraft and Terraria appear to be inspired by Minecraft, which in turn was inspired by many other games, including Infiniminer, Dwarf Fortress, and Dungeon Keeper. However, I do not believe you can achieve something great or interesting by merely attempting to emulate something successful. It becomes especially embarrassing if you publicly deny any inspiration when it's painfully clear how much of a copy it is."
