Bad news for all fans of the critically acclaimed but underselling Mirror's Edge. Eurogamer translated a story from Press 2 Play TV about Electronic Art's DICE studio.

""Patrick (Soderlund - EA driving and shooting game boss) acknowledged that Mirror's Edge didn't match up to their expectations regarding sales, and that has stopped the sequel that has been in development," declared the report, published originally in December."

"EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped - involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror's Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity."

Eurogamer thinks (and I agree) the new project is most likely Battlefield: Bad Company 3, a franchise that has proven highly successful and has even challenged the Call of Duty franchise for the throne of FPS games in recent years.

It's always problematic for studios when they have a game they love and doesn't sell well. On the one hand, they would love for the franchise to continue. On the other hand, their studio has many mouths to feed, so the bottom line is still all-important.
