Well, hate might be a bit of a strong word to use, but from what he said in a recent interview, it seems he doesn't particularly like him:

Who’s your least favorite character?
Toad. [Laughs]

My favorite character is your least favorite character?
I understand that he has some popularity. Somehow.

It was in the context of Mario Kart 7, so maybe it means he just hates his voice, or how Toad has decent stats or something, but you heard it from him, Toad sucks. Bit funny when you consider who was the third and fourth playable character in New Super Mario Bros Wii though.

Do you think Miyamoto is right to dislike Toad?

Well I don't know a lot of people who can just straight up say, "Toad is an amazing character." I for one don't like him, but it's whatever the big man himself says and we can't argue against that.

I started to like Toad after I saw all those Mario interactive videos...the actor was cute though.

Toad is one of my favourite characters. Each person has their own different thoughts about all the characters though so he's more then welcome to voice it.

Off-topic, but did I read that correctly? Yes, yes I did:

Looking ahead, as part of the release of the Wii U, you’ll be working on Pikmin 3. Are you excited to bring that back as part of the new console?
Originally, I was making Pikmin 3 would be launched on the Wii platform. Because the Wii U is capable of HD quality pictures, and will be accompanied by the subscreen on your hand. I thought that I would be able to make a Pikmin that was closer to my ideal. I am now actually enjoying myself, working on the game.

I love Toad! Out of all the main characters, Toad is my favorite.

I dont particularly like Toad at all to say the least. He never " Really" helps Mario, sure he lets Mario sleep at a Toad house or he sells items....But that's were he gets me! Selling things! Mario is just a plumber that has no business saving peach, but he does it anyways while Toad is stealing money from the poor guy! "If you wanna rest in my Toad house you gotta pay!" I mean C'mon Toad! Mario/Luigi is saving the world while you steal money from him and just sit on your big fat bum!

But that's what I think about him in the games... -__-
Though Toad as a character is not that bad.
Though I like toadette a lot. Becuase she never "Sells" anything to Mario/Luigi she helps for free!

miyamoto is right i hate toad so much, it was a complete letdown when NSMBW came out and toad was playable i was thinking the whole time they could do better and use someone else, anything but toad let alone 2
 
Yeah, I never really liked Toad all that much either. I don't know why, but he kinda annoys me. Perhaps it was his voice.
 
I love everything about Toad.
His voice isn't annoying at all. I love Toad's voice.
Annoying voices are Daisy's voice and Metal Mario's voice.

The top characters with annoying voices are Baby Peach and Funky Kong.
