What's you guys' opinion on MMORPG's like Neverwinter/TerA? Also, do you think with all of the free to play games out there, that subscription based games are going to become a thing of the past?

I never played those MMORPG. But, I think the free to play model is here to stay, and there still be paid subscriptions for people who want more quests, features, and items. I think it would be like Runescape where people can play for free, but they can also choose to pay a monthly, or yearly subscription to have access to more levels, and features.

I believe that F2P games are generally done badly (Pay-to-Win etc. are STILL standard.) but I like doing more fair free-to-play models, like advertising (which is unfortunately blocked by many, who are simply to be treated as pirates) and cosmetic upgrades.

I believe that paid games will stick around for the time being. WoW is still giant, is it not? If you make a good enough game, your business model doesn't matter. Blizzard is considering a F2P WoW, but I see subscription existing for the foreseeable future, regardless. It's a viable model and I don't necessarily oppose it, while I do oppose things like pay-to-win and other such F2P models being combined with it (as well as some F2P models as standalone means of business).

I think League of Legends, and DOTA 2 are free to play, but you can still have fun even if you don't pay anything.

Although, games like Farmville, and other Zynga games are Pay to win.

It is a shame people block advertising on a free game which they play since it usually means games have to be pay to win, cut back on adding new features to the games, or shutting the game down because the owner can't afford to hire people to maintain the game, website, and to promote their game.

I love F2P MMOs.  I have many like Planetside 2, APB Reloaded, Tactical Intervention, War INC., DC Universe On-line, and more.   I love it, and I don't mind "pay to win" as long as everyone still has a fair chance to play and have fun.

I love certain MMORPG's.

I was really into Phantasy Star Universe for Xbox 360 before it sever closed down.

Now I mostly play DC Universe online.

Do you play it on the PS3 or PC?  I like it on the PC, esp. with my Xbox 360 controller for Windows!

I play it on both.

I started out on the PC but later moved to the PS3 since I wanted to play on a flatscreem tv.

Coolness.  The main reason I took it off the PS3 was space.  It was taking up like 15 GB. lol Our PS3 hard drive is almost full.  Besides I have a level like 10 dual pistol and tricked out toon on the PC. hehehehe

I just got my playstation 3 and it has plenty of space for now.

Good thing to since DC Universe takes up A LOT of space lol.

I know right! We have a 320GB PS3 and like 26 games, all downloaded. lol

I tried Runescape and I liked it for a bit (this was a while ago though). I haven't played it in forever. I couldn't get into WoW for the life of me, even though everyone else around me loves it. My ex-boyfriend was like hardcore into WoW. He had a set schedule of when his dungeons were and had to play every night for whatever reason. I couldn't do it, but maybe it's because I hate being the newbie in games. I lost a good portion of my life to Maplestory [for shame]. I even got my current boyfriend into it. :p I don't play MMOs anymore due to lack of time, but Maplestory will always have a special place in my heart.

I was a huge MMORPG player and MMOPRG's literally sucked years off my life. I am talking about enough time to take 3+ years off my life if you add all the hours up. I have had many games where my guys have 365+ played days. And 24 played hours counts as a day. If I were you I would stay far away from MMORPG's unless you want to waste your life away like i did.

Seems like we're on the way out with the monthy fee games, at least for now. At the time though, I didn't mind paying for game like WoW for the first year or two simply because it's cheaper to pay $15 a month and game as much as you want vs say simply going out to 1 movie a month. Entertainment value was high.

Nowadays though there are a lot of more cost effective alternatives which still offer that entertainment value, but don't have a cost associated with them (or it's optional). League of Legends is the best example of this. However, within the MMORPG realm Guild Wars 2 would be a great example where you just pay for the game once and it's free to play online.

I love MMORPGs because you can play them like forever and never be finished. You can allways get better with your skills and wealth for example.

I'm not the hugest MMO fan, but I think it's clear that the traditional subscription model is on its way out. No one wants to pay an upwards of 15$ a month to play an MMO anymore, not with games like Guild Wars 2, or the mulititude of 100% F2P MMOs out there.

Subscription-based MMORPGs are indeed becoming scarce. I can only think of World of Warcraft at the moment, but I'm sure there's a few more. Most games of this type prefer free registration with bonus items you can buy using real money, at least nowadays. Not necessarily 'pay-to-win', it can be visual items, pets etc. I think WoW will keep their philosophy because so far it's worked for them, but new MMORPG cannot adopt it as I don't think it can bring them success.

Most F2P MMORPGs are really done quite badly with a lot of pay to win features. I personally think it's a shame, as the games tend to have a lot of potential. I personally had a lot of fun playing Neverwinter, but it really does become more and more pay to win as you go up the levels. I think the subscription model definitely is being phased out, but instead of being replaced by something better, it seems to be being replaced by pay to win games, which personally I think is a very dangerous trend.

I'm planning on re-subbing to EVE On-line.  It's $15 a month and going strong even longer than WoW and all expansions are free.  It's actually the only MMO I keep coming back to.

I don't really favor any MMORPGs, or even regular RPG games. Pokemon is an exception. I just never had the motivation to play through such  super complex storyline games except for the Pokemon series.
