I honestly can’t think of Japanese food where they eat a worm that oozes puss. I remember that scene from Bear Grylls as a survival tactic, not as a local food dish in a country.
I do know some shows like Bizarre foods do (as the title implies) focus on the weird stuff, but it can give some people the impression that some of those dishes are common food items in the country.There are times where even locals think “wait, that’s a thing” or “dude, nobody actually eats that anymore”. It’s similar to how Westerners can know more about the weird stuff in Japan more than even Japanese people do.
