Is it just me or are we seeing more and more anime, with hopeless situations like the promised neverland, attack on titan and such?

(_ _) Animators shouldn't think of only sad stuff :sigh:

What do you guys think?

I think attack on titan ushered in the genre personally.

Attack on Titan didn't really usher it in, it just made it noticeable for people who didn't know anime like that existed. They thought Attack on Titan was cool and seek out similar shows.

I suppose that's how it is.
But most of the other anime, wanted people to look for them, when they need similar anime like AOT....so,.... I am not entirely sure.

I used to own an anime forum and used love that genre but sadly I do not have the time to keep up with it like I used to when I was younger. But Titan certainly ushered in the genre.

Most of the time genres don’t pop up out of nowhere when they blow up in popularity. Usually it’s been around for a hot minute, and the one series that gets popular either had the right timing, or had elements that gave it more mainstream appeal.

It wouldn’t be out there to say that Game of Thrones and Walking Dead helped push the popularity of Attack on Titan in the West, as I heard people comparing it to those shows when it came out. The same thing with the initial premise of SAO.

Wow. That makes sense.
I haven't watched those TV shows...but AOT is a little too dark.
