The most popular console in Japan is the PlayStation 2. A survey conducted at Tokyo Game Show in September asked 1,000 convention attendees what piece of gaming hardware they used the most. This is the second year in a row that the PS2 was number one, with 70% of those surveyed.
While the PlayStation 2 beating out the current-gen consoles may surprise you, the number two most used game hardware shouldn't. The Nintendo DS came in closely behind with 68.7%, the PSP was at 68.6% and the Wii was 56.7%. Sony's PS3 came in 5th with 47.7% and Microsoft's Xbox 360 was only regularly used by 19.6% of gamers.
The survey also asked about future purchases for 2011. 33% plan to buy a Nintendo 3DS. 7.7% want to buy the PlayStation Move and only 6.3% want the Kinect.

I hope sony keeps the PS2 alive for a year or two more.
