Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC. (SCEA) today announced that more than 8 million units of the PlayStation Move motion controller for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system have been sold*1 worldwide as of April 3, 2011. Additionally, the PlayStation Move ecosystem, including the PlayStation Eye camera, PlayStation Move navigation controller, and PlayStation Move compatible software, continues to see strong momentum at retail as more gamers experience the precision motion control that only PlayStation can deliver.

The introduction of the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter peripheral for the PS3 system, which houses both the PlayStation Move motion controller and PlayStation Move navigation controller, is also achieving exceptional sales numbers. Despite limited supply, the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter saw 40% attachment with the Killzone 3 game among key retailers.

"Due to the demand for the PlayStation Move motion controller, we've been struggling to keep units in stock in our U.S. GameStop stores," said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising for GameStop. "With big franchise titles set for release throughout the year for the PlayStation Move, we expect the remainder of 2011 to be a period of continued sales growth for PlayStation Move."

Appeal for Casual and Core Gamers
Already a success with casual gamers with titles such as Sports Champions and PlayStation Move Heroes, strong sales of Killzone 3 and the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter demonstrate PlayStation Move's versatility and appeal to more immersive gaming experiences. The deep library of PlayStation Move game titles for all genres will continue to grow, with more than 80 PlayStation Move titles available in the U.S. by the end of 2011, including franchise favorites such as SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals and Resistance 3, both which will also support the PlayStation Sharp Shooter.

"The PlayStation Move has been incredibly successful since its launch, and we're particularly impressed with the positive response we're seeing from both the casual and hardcore gaming audience," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The momentum behind PlayStation is accelerating, and with more than 8 million PlayStation Moves sold we know people are enjoying the most accurate motion gaming experience available today. Coupled with our stereoscopic 3D entertainment offering, PS3 continues to provide the most immersive gaming experience for consumers."

With more than 50 million PS3 systems sold globally, equipped with future proof cutting–edge technologies including the powerful Cell Broadband Engine and RSX processors as well as the Blu-ray Disc (BD) player and HDMI, the PS3 system along with PlayStation Move continues to evolve into the most complete entertainment device in the home.

congrats to the move.

"In other news, Kinect has just surpassed well over 12 million." Haha, but Move is better. Kinect would be good if it had good games. >_>
