Mozilla chairman Mitchell Baker said that there will be no further innovation updates and no further interface development. Mozilla will be offering stability and security updates via an extended support release process, but that's about it. Baker justified the move with a certain lack of community effort to continue Thunderbird development.

A sad day for people who prefer Thunderbird Mail Client over Outlook, Windows Live Mail, or Outlook Express. I always found Thunderbird easy to use, and simple.
But, I guest most people moved onto webmail like Ymail, Gmail, Hotmail, and their ISP's webmail website.
I hope Mozilla does not also discontinue kompozer desktop website maker because most people these days use WordPress, Blogger, Joomla, Drupal, phpBB, and other web-based website, blog, or forum software to build and maintain their website.
