Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated album dropped on October 3, 2025. “The Life of a Showgirl” is a twelve song album that has its ups and downs, but definitely more downs than ups.

The first five songs of the album ▬ “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Opalite,” “Father Figure,” and “Eldest Daughter” ▬ are great and have you going in with high expectations. They have choruses and beats you can vibe to. “The Fate of Ophelia” actually sets the tone for the entire album with its singable chorus and its highs and lows. “Opalite” and “Father Figure” give a nice contrast to each other, going from what is probably the most upbeat song on the album to the darkest song on the album.

And then you immediately take a nosedive into the “meh” vibes of the rest of the album. “Ruin the Friendship” and “Actually Romantic” give “old Taylor” vibes from her early career, but they don’t have the same charm her previous albums had. “Wood” had me learning a lot more about Travis Kelce, Swift’s fiancee and tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, than I would ever want to know. “CANCELLED!” has a very nice chorus and beat, but that’s about all it has going for it.

The album rounds up with the titular track “The Life of a Showgirl,” featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Overall, it’s an okay song with the chorus being the best part of it. Swift and Carpenter’s vocals compliment each other beautifully.

Overall, the album itself is very “meh,” to put it simply. I’m personally not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but even I was able to appreciate a lot of her older work and have a number of her songs that I absolutely love and can jam out to. Most of the songs I just wasn’t really able to vibe with or jam out to. If I had to rate the album, I’d probably give it a 6 or a 7 out of 10.
