A gift for me myself and I! I know, pretty costly, but it was the only one that was within my wanted specs and didn't have a review lower than 4 stars. Plus by the time all my gift money and credit on amazon kicked it, it costed about the same as my old laptop.

So I got this recently, which I had UPS deliver to a local pick up store (I found this better than waiting for a delivery guy who may never show), and as you all know I'm anti windows 10 so the moment I booted it up I attempted to to put W7 Ultimate on instead, well like all my tech luck, this didn't go well.

On someone's suggestion, I used parted magic to get the right format for windows to install, even after getting it to NTFS it still gave me a: can't install partition GPT error, which the only fix I found was nuking my HDD, and nuked my HDD I did and finally allow me to install W7.

So pros of nuking a HDD, you only install the OS with nothing else on the PC meaning all bloatware is gone. Cons of nuking a HDD, you only have the OS, no drivers or nothing. ^^;

So after spending a half hour getting a wireless driver on my laptop (which I got a purchase driver thing via MS forums that required online pay and access -_-) I started the 2-3 hour windows update, windows 10 update removal and putting all my stuff back on plus needed drivers.

Needless to say, this newer one is leaps and bound better than my last one:

Hopefully by the time I need to get another rig, MS will have gotten better with W10 or whatever else they bring out.

That's quite the laptop! Great specs. ASUS always makes good laptops in my opinion, never seen a bad one. Hope you enjoy it!

You're not going to game on it? D:

*slowly draws sword as well*

But I think I will game on this one day, I got a ton of emulator games to play plus I need to play undertale.

Man, you must really hate Windows 10 if you went through all that trouble to replace it with Windows 7. Where did you even buy a copy of Windows 7 from?

Well I should have gotten a copy from my college but I was too slow on that one. I ended up going to some website I never heard of and purchased a key.

Unfortunately no, I had looked at several ASUS laptops and wanted one that was around $900 but it was really bad reviewed and was supposed to be crap. This one that I bought was the first decent one I saw that was well received.

Congrats on the purchase DS. I think it'll prove to be a great laptop for you and will provide many hours of gaming.

Asus makes solid gaming laptops. (I have a G750JW myself which is a step down from what DS has now.)

17.3" screen with a 1600x900px resolution.
Intel Core i7 4700HQ quad core processor (2.4Ghz per core).
2 hard drives (1TB for each drive.)
16GB of DDR3 ram (with 2 slots open)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 Video Ram

DVD writer
Wireless AC
4 USB 3.0 ports.
An HDMI port.

Even my laptop will still handle gaming pretty well. It laughs at Starcraft 2 on the highest settings. Keeps a pretty steady 115fps unless I'm using a screen recorder in which case it drops to about 95fps. It also plays Fallout 4 with no problems, keeping a framerate of 55-60 most of the time, although I have it's quality set to medium.

So DS, I coudld easily see your new laptop handling gaming with no problem for the next 3 years easily.

As for Asus themselves, I'm pretty impressed with their G series/RoG line of systems. They've been high quality with extremely solid specifications at excellent price points. I mean other laptops, for the same specs, often cost several hundred dollars more. Plus, I admit that I think the G series just looks cool.

If you use it for gaming, let me know how well it runs. Need a gaming laptop myself.

like @VirusZero said above, this laptop will run anything. But I'm planning on getting mine to last at least 10 years even if it don't stay up to standards. Also if you do buy one, be sure to check the reviews, anything under $1000 seem to have a lot of issues.

Also apparently my W7 U key is bad, so I'm trying to get a hold of a key that works.

It is disappointing that people have to spend over $1000 on a good Windows laptop which does not have bad user reviews.

I think the poor user reviews on Windows laptops are one of the reasons that more people are buying Google Chromebooks, Macbooks, and laptops. Chromebooks laptops are generally cheaper, but they have decent reviews. Apple Macbooks are more expensive, but they are generally very reliable, and can last for many years. I seen some people use very old Macbooks which still work okay.

I'm still not sure if the reviews posted were bad due to hardware or software, W10 is still full of issues.
