Although only a little info about the Wii U was reveled, I still want so share some of my thoughts on the Wii U's multiplayer possibilities we know so far.

Currently the only two controllers that are usable are the new controller and the Wii remote. The new controller, obviously, has a lot of controlling options, including buttons, circle-pads, touch screen and motion controls. The classic Wii remote, however, has less options compared to the previous controller. This leads to a problem: in multiplayer games, P1 (Using the new controller) and P2,P3...(Using the remote) will have way different experiences. A demo has shown how this works:

We can see that the one with the new controller plays a different role compared to other players. Okay, it looks fun, but what about games like Mario Kart/ Smash Bros? Firstly, P1 would be able to get more information (If the touch screen displays, let's say, a map instead of a mirror image of the TV), he/she would have an advantage already. Secondly, the Wii remote is already pretty awkward to use in Smash Bros or FPS games, due to lacking GameCube ports. When game developers are planning the controls for a Wii U game, not only they have to think for the new controller, they also have to consider how the game could be playable on a Wii remote which has less functions.

So the best idea in my mind that would possibly work is to make a smaller, cheaper controller that has everything the new controller has, but minus the touch screen, for multiplayer games. Even a wireless Classic controller pro would do better than a Wii remote.

What are your thoughts on how Nintendo could make the Wii U 's multiplayer work?
